The Flame Passes On

Newsletter from the ministry Good News for the Shan in
Northern Thailand, working among the Shan people from Myanmar.

It has been some months since our last newsletter, but a lot of exciting things have happened since then in our ministry in Northern Thailand, and it will be difficult to include everything in this newsletter.

We will concentrate on telling some of the stories and backgrounds of how seven people have received Jesus and whom we have baptized, from November to now, and the fire continues to be passed on.

This newsletter will be relatively long, but I think it will be inspiring reading for you, to see what God is doing out here in Southeast Asia.

  • Feel free to follow us on our Facebook Page where we post photos and short updates almost every week.
  • Also watch a short video from the ministry at the bottom of this email!

They Lost Everything In The Flash Flood

Newsletter from the ministry Good News for the Shan in
Northern Thailand, working among the Shan people from Myanmar.

We are in a busy time right now. We have visits from a DTS team from Canada, and we also have been giving out Covid-19 relief as food to many families and individuals affected by the Covid-19 situation, which is virtually most of the people we are reaching out to.
The Covid-19 situation has worsened here in the north recently, but vaccinations are in progress.

Last week we also visited four families who lost everything in a flood.

God Is at Work In a Challenging Time

Newsletter from the ministry Good News for the Shan in
Northern Thailand, working among the Shan people from Myanmar.

It is the end of the rainy season here in northern Thailand, and the “cold” season will soon begin, with temperatures below “20 degrees” Celsius at night.

In the last three months, we haven’t done much external activity in the ministry because of increase in Covid-19 cases in Thailand. At the beginning of August, it peaked at around 23k people who got Covid-19 per day, but now it is down to 11k, some days, so it is on the right track.

Our ministry during these three months has not stopped up because of this. We have not been able to do some things, but we have had a lot of contact with people through Messenger, Facebook and telephone, and we pray for people almost every day.

There are many who are hungry for the Good News now. We have several who wants to receive Jesus, and we have also experienced people who have been healed trough prayer, but we have also experienced some challenges especially in connection with the Covid-19 situation.

Read more about this in our newsletter.

An Eager New Christian and Baptism

Newsletter from the Ministry: Good News for the Shan –
Sharing the Good News in Northern Thailand among the Shan people from Myanmar

Here are some news from us in Northern Thailand.
In the West, summer is just starting, while summer in Thailand is over and the rainy season has begun. The Thai school year have started too, but due to local Covid-19 outbreaks, it has not started yet.
For the same reason, we have not been able to start up our weekend school.

We have nevertheless been able to do a lot in the ministry. Among other things: We saw a woman in her twenties receive Jesus in May, and this month she was baptized.
You can read more about this and other news from the ministry in this newsletter.

(Remember to watch a video from the baptism!)

Great Openness and the Third Wave

Newsletter from the Ministry: Good News for the Shan –
Sharing the Good News in Northern Thailand among the Shan people from Myanmar

Here in Northern Thailand, it is the hot season and summer time now and the school holidays should have soon been over, but there is a third wave of Covid-19 here, so the school start has been postponed, and we don’t know how long? This applies to our weekend school as well.

I know most people are tired of hearing about Covid-19, and we all hope that it will soon be over, so we can start planning things again, and living normally. We are also very much looking forward to that, but we are a bit behind Europe and the States when it comes to vaccination, so possible we have to wait longer?

Just before the new Covid-19 wave hit here in Thailand, we were luckily to be able to have a big and successful Easter party at our weekend school, where we experienced a great openness. There was also a woman who recently wanted to receive Jesus who was at this feast.

From Shutdown to Growth

Newsletter the Ministry: Good News for the Shan –
Sharing the Good News in Northern Thailand among the Shan people and other people groups from Myanmar

About a year ago we had to shut down the weekend school and much of our
ministry because of Covid-19. Within a few months, a couple who worked
with us for almost three years also left.

We did not know how things would be when we partially started up our
ministry again in August 2020, but most of the children still came to
our weekend school even though we had closed it down for over five
months, and we had between 15-25 children until Christmas time. This newsletter will be about growth and progress in our ministry, and about and the situation in Myanmar. Feel free to read to the end.

Baptism and Opposition for New Believers

This is news from the ministry: Good News for the Shan

We recently had a baptism, we have started up Sunday meetings again and at the end of August we saw a couple receive Jesus.
The new Christians have also experienced some opposition because of their new faith. We have seen a total of seven people receive Jesus during July and August.

They Will Crucify You

One of those who became a Christian recently comes almost every Sunday. She lives near our weekend school.
One Sunday she did not come, and Mawkkham went and visited her, while I taught English in the afternoon. After one hour, they returned together. Mawkkham told me: When it was a Buddhist holiday a couple of days ago, their boss had asked why they did not go to the Buddhist temple in the village. She said they had become Christians now, so they did not go to the temple. The boss had then said contemptuously: If you have become Christians, then they (i.e. us) will soon do with you as they did with Jesus, crucify you.
